Flipping thru’ the papers during dinner today, (yes in times like these, even the most mundane activity seems oh-so interesting) I came across this article in Life! Page 6 that got me chuckling as I slurped on my bowl of yong tau hu soup.

Titled “Meow, read my sms-es”, it discusses how technology has revolutionized courtship by allowing couples to text sweet nothing messages. I’m not going to go on and on about this lest this turns out to be another dreary newspaper review like the previous post (not that I have the luxury of time either). I’m just going to quote a part of it.

“But those four words perfectly exemplify what I’m talking about. It provides the receiver no useful information apart from forcing him or her, for a moment at least, to think about you”

Gee…imagine having to force your man/lady to think of you. Quite pathetic eh? You have to read the article yourself to know what those four words are. It’s quite a fun piece to read. The writer sure has some good witty genes.

Ok, have to go back to TBP revision. Tough war awaits.

Ciao!

So, it is a Sunday yet again... a day after the dreaded and very much abhorred Professional Practice in Construction exam ( Yes, a paper on Saturday noon! That's good ol' NUS for you.) I woke up just in time for a nice lunch (haha) and moped around the house for the next 2 hours before picking up the stack of papers that was strangely( and very strategically) placed on the tv console by The Mother (who was at work) ... a VERY SUBTLE hint I must say. Not really looking forward to another session of i'm-going-to-stop-subscribing-to-the-papers-if-you-are-not-intending-to-read-them, I plopped down on my dirty swirling grey chair and began acting like an intellectual for the following 45 min or so.

Much to my surprise, they are still reporting on the exorcism case in the papers! It's very much evolving into Singapore's version of the soap opera Days of Our Lives now. You can skip the papers for 2 weeks and not worry about not being able to keep track on the who-what-why-how of the case (not that anyone would be THAT eager to find out I suppose) Back in those days, I could skip Days of Our Lives for a good two months and still know what was going on because the plot moved at such an alarmingly S--L--O--W speed. Even Sherlin's turtle can crawl faster! Oh wait, that's not a real turtle. Nevermind.

Let's see what else can I remember..oh yes..FOREIGN TALENT. Some dude from the Sports School/ Council has courageously admitted that his choice to concentrate on attracting foreign sports talent years back was a wrong one. It sure was an expensive mistake, considering the fact that a million bucks was sacrificed. My mistakes were never expensive (in fact, they didn't cost a single cent 99% of the time) but still, I have had to endure the seemingly never ending rantings and rage outbursts (from The Mother usually) . This dude sure got off the hook easy since there wasn't any big hoo-ha about it.

Anyway, he was saying how it's always more reliable to have homegrown sports talent since after some time, the foreign talents are either not meeting standards set, running away or suing the association. He sure can say that now that we have our own sports school and nurturing our own sports medals grabbers.I am inclined to think that the foreign sports talents we have now are not going to be happy with the report. I wish him all the best.

On another note, I was glad to be greeted with a smiling Mr Neil Humphreys in Saturday's Life section. Yes I am a fan of his and I am not going to be covert about it. He can talk about the most sleep inducing topics and yet manage to inject his unique sense of humour that average Singaporeans like yours truly can understand. This is important because I have concluded that humour, unlike music, DOES NOT transcend all boundaries. I have been trying to read this book titled I Have A Bream by John o' Farrell (a columist too) ever since I picked it up from the Humor section in Borders about a month ago. Boy, it was some excellent choice I made. I couldn't bring myself to laugh at a good 80% of the stuff I read inside there! He writes about a whole lot of stuff, which, provided I understand, are really quite fun to read. But when he starts making some supposedly funny references to political scenes in UK or US, that's when I start flipping the pages. I mean, I can't even catch up with political scene here, much less those in the States or UK. To even understand the political humour he penned is tantamount to asking me sit through 2 hours of PP lecture with no breaks. You get the drift.

In any case, this is exactly why I am thankful that Neil Humphreys still writes about stuff that I can understand, identify with and laugh about.

Ending off, I'll leave you with the 2 pictures of the week!

Presenting to the world... THE BEE WHICH NEVER DIES!!

I was at McCafe studying with Vinna when this bee started harassing us. It brought out the Xena in me and I went on to flick it away from the glass panel. (1 for Xena, 0 for Mr Bee) It fell straight to the ground and was struggling about, as shown in the picture. Looking at the poor guy, I almost felt guilty for paralyzing it. Thank god I didn't waste my supply of guilt because before we knew it, Mr Bee was up, up and away! Not only did he regain his flight abilities, he brought along with him two other mates! So instead of one, we had to deal with 3 buzzing creatures! Needless to say, we were defeated and were forced to move to other spots. (1 for Xena, 1 for Mr Bee) Bugger....

Next up, give a round of applause to Singapore's very own SLEEPING BEAUTY!

Aww... the poor girl was zonked out from all the mugging and needed a little break. But that didn't stop me from capturing this rare moment! Hehe.

I'm outta here!!

ADIOS!!

An open letter to Santa

Dear Santa,

Hello! This is Claryce. Remember me? You did not deliver my presents last year because you said your reindeers couldn't find their way here. I hope you received the street directory I mailed you last Spring. Anyway, I haven't been too naughty this year (except for the occasional bitch fits) so I was wondering if you could bring me some presents. Below are some of the things that I'd appreciate if you could bring for me (in order of importance)

(1) a nice Brunk (it means BRainy HUNK)
(2) a sack of money ( i accept SGD, USD, Euros and Pounds only)
(3) Borders book voucher
(4) a beautiful necklace
(5) shoe vouchers

That's all for now. The list is not exhaustive though. I will write to you again if there are any additions to the list. Till then, thanks and take care!

Love,
Claryce

(P.S: oh and Santa, it'll be good if you could lose some of those jiggling fats. The reindeers are contemplating lodging a complain to PETA because of the extra load they have had to carry over the years. yeah... thought I should let you know about this.)

tadah!

a brand new blogskin! 'Eat the future' had to go cos it was eating up my future, literally.
this new skin is a bitchy and narcissistic one i must say. but i adore adore ADORE the color of it!

trust me, attempts to change the big fat "GOSSIP GIRL" and "you know you love me" were all futile. the creator simply had it deeply embedded and integrated with the whole layout. rats...

well i'm not going to admit being a gossip girl..let's just say im a closet one though. and according to penal code no. 74539283594756332, i am suppose to continue staying in the nice closet till NASA announces the news of Planet Venus becoming a suitable habitat for all living bodies. until then, the door remains shut.

ok, gotta run.
adios!

it's 1st november!! which means we are going hari raya visiting tmr!! weeeeeez! the delicious foodies and cookies that await us... can hardly wait (",)

*************************************************************************

honest people exist! it's true!

i dropped my bus pass on the bus two days back and felt so super duper bleah. vinna was kind enough to forgo her opera (thanks amigo! you're the best!) and accompanied me to the office at the bus terminal. the bus uncle asked if we remembered how the bus driver looked like. i didn't but vinna did. she remembered him as an uncle with white hair. little did we know that the uncle'd go around telling his fellow mates that we were looking for a white hair uncle!! hahaha! he seemed amused that we remembered the white hair. minutes later, uncle white hair finally appeared! he let us into the bus to search......but to no avail :( i thought that was it...there goes my 97 bucks of concession..

little did i know that i would receive news of my bus pass being found and returned to the school's student services center the next morning! it made me a very happy person for the whole of yesterday. so i wanna say a HUGE "Thank You!" to ms/mr ho yuet, the kind soul who found and returned my pass.

and of cos not forgetting the cute TIBS (the SMRT staff was so hostile) bus uncles (uncle coffee of bus 963 and uncle white hair of bus 188) who were so nice and helpful! uncles rock! hahaha.

chef claryce was sick of the food at the kopitiam and didn't feel like ordering fast food. so she decided that it was about time she made a comeback at the kitchen. however, being as lazy as always, she thought that it'll be easier to have just fried rice and a plate of chicken dices. well, the chicken turned out fine but the same can't be said for the rice. all was well till she added in the eggs. what was suppose to be fried rice became mui3 fan3 (a kind of rice with watery gravy) thank goodness it was still edible and didn't taste ewe-y. The Mother even complimented it. hahaha.

soy chicken dices

fried rice that was not-so-fried

the last i heard, chef claryce is going to seek help from her student's mom (who makes fried rice as nice as those from coffee shops) on how to whip up the perfect fried rice. watch this space for more adventures of chef claryce and her fried rice!

*********************************************************************

the end.
